Premium Whiskey Label Design

This single malt whiskey label was designed for a Lancaster distillery. Art direction began with the illustration of the brand's core identity: the Amish Hex Sign. The distillery is located in an area of Pennsylvania that draws inspiration from its culture and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage.

During the sketching phase, various Dutch hex signs were drawn out as rough concepts. Here I explore the composition and arrangement of the oak leaves as well as the surrounding border of acorns and scalloped edges. The high contrast of the symbol allows for ornate line art details.

Next, graphic design and layout of the label itself are explored. I focus on how the typography pairs with the design, select fonts that are legible yet add a sense of class and luxury to the bottle label. This whiskey bottle was custom made, therefore a custom die-cut of the label was required to fit the shape of the glass. The packaging design includes a front label, back panel with distiller signature, and a top neck seal wrap over the cork. Both a white label with watermark and a darker reversed out label were provided as additional releases hit distribution.

The final hex symbol was redrawn in Adobe Illustrator as a vector. This allows for the brand identity to be scaled infinitely to any size or dimension and remain crisp and clear. The design can be used on other marketing during the product release such as banners, flags, t-shirt designs and swag - even a wall mural!
